2008 11-12 Guatemala

My 16 days in Guatemala was full of adventure! I spent 4 days in Antigua (attended Kathryn's wedding, climbed an active volcano Vulcan Pacaya), 5 days by Lake Atitlan (my very favorite part of the trip, climbed dormant volcano Vulcan San Pedro, swam lake, perfected my hammock hanging skills), 2 days in El Peten region (walked in rainy Flores and crowdy jungle of Tikal, perfect weather as I was told it's almost unbearably hot when the sun is out), 2 days in Coban (swam in the river at Semuc Champey, watch thousands of bats flying out of Coban cave under the full moon, then found ourselves stuck there as the guide left the car key at the guard station which was closed and locked by the time we came out of the cave), then back to la antigua and sleepy Monterrico (pacific coast of guatemala, getaway for people living in Antigua and Guate City) where I got to take all the photos of mangrove forests as my guide Sanders explained every details of the forest during the trip.... It was a captivating trip, and I have to go back again, next time to Xela and Rio Dulce, and of course back to Lake Atitlan!!!

2007 11 Senegal

I visited Senegal from November 10th through November 24th, 2007. I stayed at my friend, Yuki-san's, in Dakar for the most time. We took trips to Ile de Goree (a beautiful island off Dakar where slaves were shipped off to Western civilization), St. Louis (an old French colony with visible detoriation), and Saly (a relaxing resort town where resident westerners in Senegal would relax by the beach). Senegal is a confusing mixture of beautiful scenaries and poverty. I couldn't make this trip possible without Yuki-san and the Morita family- Thank you so much for all you have done!
